Arrests made after drivers stop to scoop up cash scattered across California freeway
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KSWB) — Two people were arrested and others could face consequences after drivers stopped on a San Diego freeway Friday to try to scoop up cash that was blowing across lanes, California Highway Patrol said.
The doors of an armored truck came open on the Interstate 5 around 9 a.m. Friday, sending cash flying. Traffic was halted as numerous people got out of their cars. The armored truck driver started picking up the bills but eventually began recording people taking the cash, according to the CHP.
Two adults, a man and a woman, were arrested on suspicion of taking money, the CHP official said, adding that the pair’s car was blocking traffic after they got locked out of their vehicle. CHP said officers were aware of videos on social media that could serve as evidence in their search for those who grabbed the cash.
“If you found money on the freeway, it is not your money,” said CHP Sgt. Curtis Martin. “It belongs to the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) and this armored truck and the bank. It needs to be returned.”
Martin asked the public to return an additional found money but said he couldn’t guarantee punishment would be avoided.
Travis Fisher, a driver who got caught in the chaos and shared a video of people scooping up bills with KSWB said he thought it was initially an accident.
“There was a bunch of cars in front of me that all stopped, came to a complete stop,” he said.
Fisher was surrounded by big rigs and couldn’t see ahead, but he noticed some of the truckers were getting out of their vehicles and “running between the lanes of traffic.”
“I see all these things floating around and I realize it’s money,” Fisher continued. “It was pretty crazy. Just everywhere, there was a sea of bills, everywhere.”
Fisher estimated there were thousands of dollars on the road.

Verdict reached in Kyle Rittenhouse trial
KENOSHA, Wis. (NewsNation Now) — A verdict has been reached in the homicide trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, an Illinois teen charged over fatal shootings he committed during unrest in Kenosha last year.
The verdict will be read in open court. NewsNation will livestream the coverage in the player above.
Rittenhouse killed Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz on Aug. 25, 2020 He faced multiple charges, including intentional homicide, recklessly endangering safety and attempted intentional homicide. He could get life in prison on the charges.
Unrest erupted in Kenosha in August 2020 over the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by a white Kenosha police officer. Protests following the Blake shooting at times turned violent and destructive, with rioters setting fires and ransacking businesses.
Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time of the shootings, went to Kenosha with an AR-style semi-automatic weapon and a medic bag in what the former police and fire youth cadet said was an effort to protect property.
Just before midnight, Rittenhouse shot and killed Rosenbaum as Rosenbaum chased him across a parking lot. As Rittenhouse fled the scene, someone in the crowd tried to kick him in the face and Huber swung his skateboard at him, connecting with Rittenhouse’s head and neck. Rittenhouse fatally shot Huber. A moment later, Gaige Grosskreutz ran up to him holding a pistol. Rittenhouse shot him in the arm; Grosskreutz survived.
Prosecutors have portrayed Rittenhouse as the instigator of the three shootings, while his lawyer says Rittenhouse acted in self-defense. He could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
The case divided Americans over whether Rittenhouse was a patriot taking a stand against lawlessness or a vigilante.
The expected verdict comes after a dramatic trial that saw the defense demand a mistrial over what they argued were out-of-bounds questions asked of Rittenhouse by the chief prosecutor. The two weeks of testimony ended as Judge Bruce Schroeder dismissed a count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18, a misdemeanor that had appeared to be among the likeliest of the charges to net a conviction. It carries up to nine months in jail.
The defense argued that Wisconsin law has an exception related to the length of a weapon’s barrel. After prosecutors conceded Rittenhouse’s rifle was not short-barreled, the judge threw out the charge.
In gamble, Rittenhouse testified at his trial, sobbing on the stand so hard at one point that the judge called a break, saying: “I didn’t do anything wrong. I defended myself.” Prosecutors in turn tried to paint him as an inexperienced teenager who misrepresented his age and medical training to other armed civilians in his group on the night of the shootings.

NASCAR teams adjust to new wheel, tire combination aimed at matching production cars
Concord, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) – NASCAR groups are in what the activity considers the “offseason”, but this could be a person of the busiest offseasons for Cup Collection teams in many years. Tests of the new 2022 NextGen auto carries on, which include a two-working day take a look at this 7 days on the Charlotte Motor Speedway oval.
The vehicles glimpse very similar to the production vehicles you uncover on the street, but they also audio distinct all through laps at comprehensive pace as very well as on pit highway. There was a noticeable raise in volume coming from the vehicles in the course of the take a look at at Charlotte, most possible due to the addition of double exhaust pipes.
Long gone are the seems of a pit gun tightening and loosening five lug nuts. The new 2022 automobile has a single, center-locking lug nut for a a little larger sized tire.
“It truly is nonetheless a tire. It really is still spherical. It really is continue to rubber. It can be still created by Goodyear and so we are learning it,” claimed Ross Chastain, who manufactured his really initial laps this week as part of Trackhouse Racing.
NASCAR executives required an 18-inch aluminum wheel to match production autos on the street. The solitary-centre lug nut was the most secure possibility to make absolutely sure the new aluminum style would remain on the racecar at top rated speed.
“General it appears to be like the fellas are experiencing performing with it, not having 5 lug nuts to just take off and place on in the garage place constantly. General I believe it is really a furthermore,” claimed Chase Elliott.
Elliott suggests there have been no difficulties with the new tire and wheel assembly, other than a apparent tire falloff next a extensive operate. Elliott believes the genuine examination for the new tire and wheel blend will arrive up coming season at tracks like Bristol, the place vehicles will race for 500 laps.

A further optimistic of the new mix is a shorter amount of money of time on pit road. Stops for 4 tires and fuel were being presently in the sub-13-second assortment. The time on pit road could further be lowered as groups practice with the new one lug gun.
“You happen to be clearly not likely to want to tune and alter on the car or truck as considerably. It will make gas flow and fueling the auto ahold up at some level,” reported Justin Alexander, crew chief at Richard Childress Racing.
The closing hour of screening on Thursday at Charlotte Motor Speedway was for teams to follow live pit stops. Hendrick Motorsports was a person of the teams that took benefit. The stops didn’t search greatly unique from pit stops with 5 lug nuts. Crew users say the new pit gun is larger and weighs additional.
Some teams appeared to battle to understand the new solitary lug pit gun, but over the offseason teams are envisioned to make 1000’s of reps practicing with the new products.
These in the motorsports field who previously use a very similar gun for pit stops, like IMSA, predict NASCAR teams will only get a lot quicker with the devices as the 2022 season ways.
The to start with dwell pit stops of the 2022 season are not anticipated to choose place till Daytona Speedweeks. The Clash at the LA Colosseum will not have a pit highway and all changes to the cars are anticipated to just take place outside the house the stadium keep track of.

US expands COVID boosters to all adults, final hurdle ahead
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. regulators on Friday opened up COVID-19 booster photographs to all adults, increasing the government’s marketing campaign to shore up defense and get ahead of increasing coronavirus instances that may well worsen with the holiday seasons.
Pfizer and Moderna introduced the Food items and Drug Administration’s conclusion immediately after at minimum 10 states already experienced begun supplying boosters to all older people. The most current action simplifies what right up until now has been a puzzling list of who’s suitable by letting anybody 18 or more mature to pick out both company’s booster six months soon after their very last dose — no matter of which vaccine they had very first.
But there is one additional phase: The Facilities for Disorder Command and Avoidance will have to concur to increase Pfizer and Moderna boosters to even balanced youthful grown ups. Its scientific advisers were being set to discussion later on Friday.
If the CDC agrees, tens of millions extra People in america could have three doses of safety ahead of the new calendar year. Any one who got the one particular-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine can already get a booster.
All three COVID-19 vaccines utilized in the U.S. nevertheless supply sturdy safety in opposition to intense ailment such as hospitalization and loss of life, but security against an infection can wane with time. Beforehand, the government had cleared boosters of Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine, as perfectly as the equivalent Moderna vaccine, only for susceptible teams together with more mature Us citizens and people with chronic overall health complications.
The shift to increase arrives as new COVID-19 cases have climbed steadily above the final two months, specifically in states exactly where colder weather is driving people today indoors.
Sparked by individuals worrying tendencies, some states didn’t hold out for federal officials to act. Utah and Massachusetts ended up the most recent states to announce in the previous 7 days that they are opening boosters to all grown ups.
Boosters for everyone was the Biden administration’s authentic target. But in September, a panel of Fda advisers voted overwhelmingly versus that strategy primarily based on the vaccines’ ongoing usefulness in most age teams. In its place they endorsed an additional Pfizer dose only for the most vulnerable.

Due to the fact then, administration officials, which include Dr. Anthony Fauci, have continued building the scenario for utilizing boosters extra broadly, noting that even milder infections in more youthful men and women can lead to “long COVID” and other issues.
“I do not know of any other vaccine where by we only get worried about trying to keep persons out of the medical center,” explained Fauci at a briefing Wednesday.
Final week, Pfizer and its German husband or wife BioNTech submitted new info to make the case that broader boosters could help tamp down bacterial infections at a crucial period of time.
“We have completely no likelihood in the existing scenario to management the pandemic without the need of providing boosters to absolutely everyone,” BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin advised reporters all through a visit to Washington last 7 days.
The organizations analyzed 10,000 grownups of all ages and found that a booster restored safety in opposition to symptomatic infections to about 95% even when the excess-contagious delta variant was surging. It’s much too before long to know if that large stage of security will very last lengthier following a third shot than immediately after the 2nd, one thing Sahin claimed the providers will thoroughly keep track of.
