CDC expects to identify omicron COVID-19 variant 'quickly' if it gets to US
ATLANTA (WFLA) — The Facilities for Disease Control and Prevention is trying to keep an eye on the emergence of a new, hugely transmissible variant of COVID-19 discovered in South Africa.
The CDC claimed that “if” this variant — acknowledged as the omicron variant — emerges in the U.S., it is predicted to be recognized “quickly.”
“No situations of this variant have been recognized in the U.S. to date,” the CDC wrote in a statement issued Friday. “CDC is pursuing the aspects of this new variant, to start with noted to the WHO by South Africa.
