MATTHEWS, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — People in Matthews may well shortly be able to use Birds to get all-around – and no, not the type in the sky.
In March, the city says electrical scooter rental firm Hen approached them about bringing the item to Matthews. Considering that then, Senior Planner Nadine Bennett says she has been studying other town ordinances and drafting her very own.
“It is a pretty thorough ordinance. Not all of them are, but we just assumed it would be ideal if it protected all the things,” she reported through Monday’s Board of Commissioners assembly.
The city hopes their ordinance would deal with any probable difficulties in advance of they occur. For case in point, Bennett claims she is exploring crucial issues like permits, insurance policies, and city liability.
“I’m actually anxious about fleet management. I’ve witnessed these scooters laying in creeks and laying on the side of the street and laying in private resident’s yards,” claimed Mayor John Higdon.
Still, a lot of neighborhood organization proprietors and downtown patrons are psyched about the new prospect.
“I consider it is a terrific strategy. We have a going for walks local community. If it was a using local community, it may make it a minor little bit much easier,” explained Kevin Nelson, working lover of Matthews Wine Cellar.
If accepted, the scooters would commence out in a “trial area” focused about downtown Matthews. That area would exclude parts of Trade Avenue due to safety issues.
“You’ve got to be liable. If you put on your own in a bad situation, a poor condition can crop up,” claimed Nelson.
