ROCK HILL, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — Just after previous protests and pleas for alter, students at Winthrop University say – time is up.
They want Title IX protections from sexual intercourse discrimination to just take outcome now starting up with a new Title IX coordinator. The recent just one, Kimberly Faust, is also the Vice President of the school. Grayce Kellam, a board member of ‘WU Learners for Change’ states that is a conflict of curiosity. The college agreed and now the place is open up. However, Grayce suggests “in the work description on the internet the new Title IX coordinator will be reporting to Faust, so what does that alter?”
College students for change is also contacting for a new definition of rape. Grayce claims the present-day model, which only addresses male to female penetration, excludes ” LGBTQ survivors, male survivors, and trans survivors.” Adding her anxiety, “I am a lesbian so if I ended up to get assaulted or raped by a partner I couldn’t go to the administration due to the fact it isn’t going to depend.”
We asked Grayce’s fellow organizer Ravyn Speigner if he feels secure at school. He laughed just before answering “no.” He is taken the lead in fighting for more protection actions, like lighting and enhanced law enforcement existence at Winthrop.
But all the ‘Students for Change’ are in this together….for as extended as it takes. “We’re not going to end right until it is secure for us and upcoming pupils or we are going to make absolutely sure that no person arrives below, it can be as easy as that, we’re not heading to be silenced anymore.”
